Development of a case study for IESE Business School.
Description:
Antoni Gaudí is a widely known architect. His works, initially harshly criticised, are now recognised as World Heritage Sites and receive millions of visitors. To this day, opinions still differ regarding Antoni Gaudí’s work and his personality. What remains undeniable is that millions of people around the world stand in admiration before his works, even though during his lifetime he faced considerable criticism. The interest his work arouses leads us to ask: what kind of personality could have created this? It is as though his architecture were a self-portrait. The answer to his singularity lies in his relational life, in his bond with those around him, and in how this is imprinted upon his works.
In Gaudí’s case, we believe that in order to study his work it is essential to introduce one key element: time, and in particular an analysis of how he carried out his projects. The case proposes focusing on Gaudí’s life, which, through his way of being, leaves an indelible imprint on his architecture, and on defining the relationship between life and work. An innovative approach that enables us to draw conclusions that remain relevant today.
